Fall 2003 Glutton's Paradise Caterers serve up a hearty menu Story and photos by Megan McIntyre
Broadview's snazzy sign
Broadview Steak and Seafood is a restaurant that
moonlights as a catering service. I’ve heard rumors that sometimes
the restaurant is closed because they are off catering some fancy event,
but that’s never interrupted my dining schedule. Maybe it’s
a myth. I can tell you if the restaurant were ever closed when I had
my mind set on a Champlainer
sandwich, I’d find the event and crash it in a second. The
food at Broadview is that good. While most people rave about Broadview’s
sandwiches, what really sets my mouth watering is the dinner menu. With
such great specials as duck or Chicken Marsala, it’s hard not
have a watering mouth even though dinner entrees will set the diner
back a bit more than a primo sandwich. For a quality gourmet meal, Broadview’s
prices are actually pretty cheap.
The sparsely decorated dining area The staff at Broadview is friendly and hospitable,
not at all what you would expect from a restaurant that serves up such
sumptuous gourmet fare. The one pitfall of Broadview is the atmosphere.
The dining area is highly reminiscent of a local Moose Lodge dining
facility, rather than a private and intimate restaurant. Broadview owners
would do well to remodel the dining area to give it more character and
atmosphere, rather than expect a few fake plants and surplus tables
and chairs to do the job. Sandwiches are offered deli style or as hot combos,
and most have the option of being halves instead of wholes. A word of
warning to those foolish enough to get a whole sandwich; you will not
finish it. Whole sandwiches at Broadview are the equivalent of an entire
day’s worth of food, on two giant slices of bread. There’s
enough meat, cheese, and fixings in there to feed the entire restaurant.
Plus, sandwiches come with the soup of the day, which is usually something
like a big bowl of chili or clam chowder. I’m quite partial to
their game soups myself. Overall the Broadview is a great place to eat. The atmosphere needs a little work, but for a restaurant that does double duty as a catering service, they are doing a pretty good job. So if you’re planning a big event, or just want to have a meal that will leave you satisfied, head down to 795 Rt. 3 West Plaza or call (518)-561-1753 to make your reservation. Have you finished a whole Broadview Sandwich? Tell us about it!
