Minnie's Caribbean and Southern Cuisine Fair prices, great service in downtown Plattsburgh Story and Photos by Rian Hunt Located in downtown Plattsburgh, Minnie's is one of the newest editions to the restaurant community. Offering southern and Caribbean cuisine, Minnie's provides new taste and style for the North Country.
The entrance of Minnie's is unique because you walk down a set of stairs and you are at river level. Minnie's provides a soothing atmosphere and an incredible view of the Saranac River. The inside is very classy with festive artwork, fancy tablecloths and chairs. I felt underdressed, wearing just jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. As I walked through the door, I was greeted by a friendly, professionally-dressed waitress who continuously smiled as she read me the specials. The comforting sounds of jazz music also welcomed customers into the restaurant. The inside is elegant with tables with freshly cut flowers, candles, fancy napkins and water glasses. My companion, Matt, and I were seated next to an ivory waterfall, which was a relaxing and peaceful addition to the restaurant. The dimmed lighting, stone walls, and fire place made me feel comfortable as well.
The menu consisted of lamb, pork chops, and curried chicken. I decided that I was better off with seafood. I ate the crab cakes, which were grilled, and my friend had pork chops. Each entrée came with two sides and cornbread. My two sides were twice baked potatoes and coleslaw, and Matt's was yellow rice and potato salad. The service was excellent; the food wasn't spectacular, but it was good and the atmosphere was magnificent. Minnie's seats approximately 60 and has fair prices, with the entrées ranging from $7.00 to $14.00.The bill for two people came to $29.91, without tax or a tip. I would recommend Minnie's to anyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere, new taste, and southern cuisine. |
