Northern Lights

The air is frigid outside on this fall evening, but the duo of Charlie Everywhere is determined to warm up the crowd. As waves of layers and textures of music flow from the band, a crowd that has gathered on top of the Tang Museum at Skidmore College dances to keep their body heat up. Charlie Everywhere is making headway in Saratoga, and they are a music critic's worst nightmare. Publications like Metroland have a bit of trouble when trying to categorize their style of music. Co-creator Josh Carter is quite alright with it. "I'd rather be making music that is original than have someone go, 'Nailed it!'" Carter explains. Titled,"Sleepless in Lake Placid" (SiLP), the contest, which is part of the Lake Placid Film Forum (LPFF), gives student teams from various Northeastern colleges the chance to explore their cinematic creativity. The catch is, they only have 24-hours to do so. The quaint, brick-lined street is calmly bustling on a warm Saturday afternoon in September. American flags fly from the lampposts and people fill the outdoor patio seating while enjoying lunch and the company of their loved ones. The street's atmosphere is welcoming and cheerful. As an elderly couple strolls by holding hands, a mother is giving a bright red apple to her daughter. There are teenage boys enjoying live street performers, and girls with shopping bags swinging from their wrists. There is laughter heard at a distance, conversations are taking place, and there are shrills of excitement from a toddler who has just see a magician perform a trick.  Read More
