“I made my mom a birthday cake, and it all started from there,” says Jennifer Gates, owner of cakeplacid. Starting from the ground up and determined to make a name for herself, she started baking out of her own home for weddings, and then moved on to farmers markets.

We had the only canoes at the boat launch.
The campsites at Indian Lake are only accessible by water. Most people haul their gear out with motorboats; this is not only less draining time-wise but also easier on the body.
The edges of the two canoes sank lower and lower as we heaped in the gear and finally ourselves. “You sure you guys are going to make it?” asked the man working the boat launch. We had no doubt. During the late ’60s and early ’70s, U.S. soldiers were stationed in the jungles of Vietnam; meanwhile, students in SUNY Plattsburgh and colleges across the nation demonstrated against the war. Their efforts escalated tensions and disagreements on the home front.
As part of the National Moratorium for Peace Day on October 15, 1969, 600 people, including SUNY Plattsburgh students, faculty, and administrators gathered by the Hawkins Pond for an afternoon vigil.
