From the hill towns of Tuscany: Mangia Restaurant Review

They are waiting to fulfill your appetitite.

Story & Photos by Sherlene Ayala

Wedged between upbeat Bootleggers and a long chain of fast food restaurants, Mangia sits lonely on Route 3. Mangia specializes in Italian cuisines with recipes directly from the hill towns of Tuscany.
If you are in the mood for an intimate, quiet dinner over a fantastic Italian meal, Mangia is the place to go.

Pasta
Pasta Alfredo with Chicken

For those who are into the traditional pasta dishes, I recommended the rich and creamy pasta alfredo. You have the decision of adding chicken or shrimp to this fettuccine pasta for an extra price of $4.95. The meal is estimated to be $13.75

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more exotic, try the boneless chicken tortellini with boneless chicken strips sautéed with sun dried tomatoes. It’s then topped with mushrooms dipped in tomato cream sauce, and tossed with cheese tortellini filled with spinach. Estimated $11.95

Interested in antipasta? Try clams bianco. Tender clams are roasted in garlic butter and white wine sauce as its cooked in the wood fire. Focaccia is added to the side for dipping. Estimated $7.99

Are you a vegetarian? No problem, all the pasta dishes come without meat. It is your choice to add chicken or shrimp.

During your meal, enjoy a glass of Campanile Pinot Grigio (Italy) which goes great with vegetable salads and pizza. Relax and savor the meal and enjoy the smooth instrumental Italian music of Mangia as your taste buds seize this elegant dry wine. Estimated $4.50 for a glass.

Decor
Very elegant decor
As for the décor, it’s simple, yet has an expensive touch to it as if it were located on a dimly lit brick side street in New York City. The tables, which sit underneath beach style canvas material umbrellas, are designed with jet black wooden chairs, forest green table tops, and a finishing touch of golden yellow wooden edges. The booths on the other hand are a bit more comfortable since they are designed with cushioned jet black leather seating.

Although the restaurant is small, it has a lot of decoration. The chalkboards list the specials for the day. The glass shelves pushed against the walls are layered with oddly shaped vases filled with mixed colored and shaped macaroni. Lastly, the photos on the walls portray the family lifestyle of the Italian home.

Mangia made me feel comfortable while I enjoyed their food. I was not rushed, nor did I have to wait. The service was exceptional, the staff was polite, and the food was of great portion size and it was delicious. I always passed Mangia and saw an empty parking lot. Like most people, I took that as a negative aspect, but in all reality it’s a great little spot in Plattsburgh that goes unnoticed. If you are ever in the mood for pasta and you don’t want to wait in line at a greasy noisy pizza shop, just head over to Mangia. They are waiting to fulfill your appetite.
