Wings and a Table Dance

Hooters draws customers in with cheap wings and tight shirts

Story and photos by Todd Costello

If you're in the mood for some cheap food and laughs, Hooters may be the place for you. While there was a lot of controversy when it was first opening in South Burlington it hasn't failed to draw in the crowds.

When I walked in, about five waitresses were dancing to oldies on stools. After a short wait we were seated by our waitress. She was dressed in the tight Hooters t-shirt, which barley covered her cleavage and tight shorts.

A lucky customer had a birthday

The menu isn't anything special to look at. If you're not in the mood for a burger, wings, or a deli sandwich you might be in trouble, because basically that's all the menu offers. Then again people typically don't visit Hooters for their fine cuisine. For an appetizer I ordered a plate of chicken wings (Hooters' claim to fame besides the cleavage).

After we placed our orders, we sat there staring at the waitresses doing their routines and dancing around the place while listening to upbeat oldies music. After a long wait of 20 minutes, our wings finally arrived and we were starving. Though a little cold, the wings were very good.

Our dinners took another half hour to arrive after we finished our wings. The burgers and sandwiches were all good sized portions to satisfy a pretty big appetite, and don't worry about getting messy because instead of napkins, a roll of paper towels is placed on every table.

A touch of class

During the meal, the waitress didn't come over once, and we didn't get refills on our drinks until the end of our meals. I guess with all the dancing they do, service isn't the first priority.

The check came to about $45 for the four of us. Overall, if you're in the mood for good burgers and wings with a few friends, and have about two hours to kill while waiting for food,Hooters may be for you. And don't forget to wash up after dinner...at the John J. Crapper....

Have you ever eaten at Hooters before?
