Letter from the Editor

Dear Readers,

After becoming a part of this publication it has become clear to me that everyone has a story to tell. Many people have the perspective that interesting people are only in surplus in big cities or on talk shows. To be honest I find the opposite to be truer or at least the stories are more unique. I blame myself for it taking twenty years to come to this conclusion, but I figure it is better to come to it now before it is too late to take advantage of it.

Growing up in the North Country I was cursed with a perspective that many others in the region face when they spend the majority of their lives in the same place. I assumed everyone was leading the same day-in-day-out life. It turns out its true what my parents say happens when you assume things.

This region has such a rich history and it would be foolish to assume it came from anywhere other than its inhabitants. So much of what makes this land we call home interesting is the stuff you won’t find in many text books — although a lengthy book could be written.

It’s the stories of self-made entrepreneurs, local farmers who have achieved self-sustainability, passionate artists, dedicated restaurant owners and the many others who keep our economy growing that make this area interesting.

Although All Points North makes it possible to read the stories of many of these fascinating people and their accomplishments, it is by no means the only watering hole to quench a thirst for an interesting story. Anyone can achieve the same satisfaction our writers do when they hear someone tell their life story for the first time. Just take a few minutes from your day — believe it or not we can all spare a few minutes — and engage in a real conversation. It will be very clear, very quickly than many people are searching for someone to tell their story to.

I am by no means against a see-the-world attitude. Everyone should jump at the opportunity to see a new corner of this world that is becoming smaller everyday. What I am against is taking for granted the world that is already within our reach. There is enough history here to fill a library. Just take a moment to look and you will find it. And when you do I would love to hear about it.

Sincerely,
Joshua Cameron
Editor-in-Chief
