North Country Homecookin’

Local restaraunt puts the "Home" in their homecoonking

If you’re looking for a nice quiet spot with delicious homemade local food, you might want to check out Michigans Plus located at 381 Cornelia St. in Plattsburgh, NY. Immediately as you walk in you’re greeted with smiles and the wonderful at-home feeling that comforts you inside and out. The feel when you walk in is very inviting. With green walls decorated with pictures of the local scenery as well as a few Norman Rockwells, this place makes everyone feel welcome. Large, comfortable booths with curtains for privacy provide perfect seating to relax in, while a diner bar is located in the back for those on the go. There’s something for everyone.

Liz's Special
One of the many favorties at Michigans Plus

While seated, you’re welcomed with a pleasant "How are we doin’ today?" or a nice "Can I get you folks some coffee?" by either Nancy Saucier or Kathy "PJ" Baglyos, the two local ladies who serve in the mornings. These women are friends and can make any customer feel like they’re sitting right at their kitchen table, equipped with family pictures and all, which is one of the great qualities about this restaurant; you don’t feel like just another customer. The two have been waiting tables for over 30 years and have been with Michigans since it started in 2003. "Waitressing is such a reward, you meet so many people. I love it!" Nancy says. Always patient and polite, they’ll let new customers know about their never changing, yet delicious specials that are posted every day and will keep in close contact with reoccurring customers. I like to think of them as "surrogate grannies".

If you come in for breakfast, you better come hungry because the specials will be sure to fill you up. One of my homemade favorites is Liz’s Special. A daily morning treat that consists of the owner’s (Liz) favorites: two eggs, hash browns, toast, a side of bacon, sausage or ham, and free refills on some of the best coffee in the area; all ranging around $5.50. Not in the mood for breakfast? No problem. Michigans Plus has a variety of lunch specials including soups and salads, burgers and of course the local North Country treat for which the restaurant is named after. You can get two Michigan dogs with the works (bean less chili, onions and mustard) as well as a side of fries for around $6.00. It is the perfect opportunity to fulfill any comfort food cravings.

what's this pic about? Michigans Plus features comfortable and sapacious seating

With a comfortable and very clean setting, good food and welcoming atmosphere, Michigans is a great place to bring the family or sit and relax with friends. There is no loud or overbearing music to compete with; however, you might find yourself nodding to some great ‘90s classic, which I sometimes find myself doing. The food is always hot, fresh and fast, given to you with a smile. It truly is a friendly place where people can sit and relax over a nice meal and not feel rushed like many fast food places make us feel these days. Michigans Plus is a place that has me coming back on a regular basis and is sure to bring the same habit to others. Michigans Plus is definitely a place I would recommend to anyone.
