The Mirror Lake Inn, Resort and Spa

The Mirror Lake Inn, Resort and Spa happen to have a little bit of everything for every family member.  It has been voted one of the world’s 500 best hotels by Travel and Leisure magazine. Living up to this great acknowledgement, the Mirror Lake Inn offers many different things for families to enjoy, even a private ice-skating rink right in front on Mirror Lake. What separates this hotel from others in Lake Placid is the memorable experience that the staff tries to leave with people. “The people that work here are really committed to their profession and we really go out of our way to give our guest a memorable experience,” says Linda O’Leary manager of marketing at the Mirror Lake Inn. “You’re not just staying at a hotel here, people leave the Inn with memories that make them come back time and time again.”

The Mirror Lake Inn has grown with its guests, O’leary says, “We have people that have worked her for 5 -30 years.” She continues, “And we have guests that came with their parents growing up, and now they’re coming with their children, so it’s more than just a place to stay.”

Inside the hotel gives guest yet another reason to stay. “There are 3 restaurants, and early family dining at 5:30 p.m.,” says O’leary. This is great for families who do not want to disturb other guest that have younger children, or are looking for a great quality diner to enjoy. The Inn is also within walking distance to Main Street in Lake Placid. Main Street has many different shops and eateries for families to benefit from. They also have a spa, and wedding ceremonies are also available to have here, with the help of the staff.

“It’s a place that people come to for a memorable experience," O’leary says. “People really think twice as to where they spend their money, and clearly we’re more expensive, but people really feel its money well spent.”

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort

Another place to stay at in Lake Placid is the Golden-Arrow Lakeside Resort. This resort is in the heart of the town of Lake Placid, just minutes from Main Street, and the Olympic center. The resort has rooms equipped with fireplaces, suites, and kitchenettes to make the experience worth-while, and of course a fantastic view of Lake Placid. The breathtaking view of Mirror Lake can be seen right outside of the room windows.

“And we have boats that are free including guest paddle boats, which are big hits with the kids.”

If families choose to come to Lake Placid during the wintertime the Golden-Arrow offers a couple different things to enjoy. “In the winter we give dog sled rides on the lake and we have our own ice skating rink as well,” says Heidi Holderied, an employee at the Golden-Arrow Lakeside Resort.

If families decide to come to this hotel during the summer time Holderied says, “In the summer there’s a beach and we have swimming outdoors (on the lake).” She continues saying, “And we have boats that are free including guest paddle boats, which are big hits with the kids.”

There are many other summer activities to do, such as canoes and kayaks rentals that can be enjoyed along the coast of the private white sandy beach. They are also equipped with a heated indoor pool, a sauna, steam room and hot tub.

There are many different packages to choose from, so guests can pick what special activities they want to partake in. They range from, romantic packages to golf packages.

“We cater to families. Our suites are designed for families,” says Holderied. “Most hotels are designed for a guy that wants a lot of space,” she continues. “Most of them (the Golden-Arrows) are basically just secondary bedrooms, so when families travel they don’t have to pay for 2 rooms; they’re very popular,” says Holderied.

There is a restaurant at the resort, called Generations Restaurant, which happens to have the food of choice when staying at the Golden-Arrow. They are currently trying to make this as green as the rest of the hotel and changing the menu to go with the seasons of Lake Placid. The menu also features local food selections to keep it as fresh as the town.
