In May of 2004, USA Today listed, in the spirit of National Hamburger Month, the top 10 burger destinations in the nation. Under the headline “Places to eat a burger worthy of paradise,” the beefy and heavenly few included such eateries as Corner Bistro in New York City, Dark Horse Bar and Grill in Boulder, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers in Honolulu – and Burlington, Vermont’s Smokejacks Restaurant. The headline-making burger ranked in at number three with the delectable sounding - and impossibly long named - LaPlatte River Farm Black Angus Burger on Toasted Focaccia with Cabot Cheddar. A life-long hamburger connoisseur with a weakness for all things cheddar, I had read no further than “toasted focaccia” when my mind was made up: I would hop a ferry to Burlington to try this paradise-worthy burger for myself. |

Look for the blue roof and you will find a taste of France hidden inside. Roger and Evelyne Metzger of Plattsburgh have opened their doors to give you a fine piece of Quiche and Crêpe. These two dishes are the new restaurant's namesake. The Metzgers present authentic French, homemade, all-natural, and highly affordable cuisine. |

No Place I’d Rather Be is an interesting collection of snippets of Adirondack experiences. Author Stuart Mesinger artfully constructed a book of excerpts from lean-to registrars. The Adirondack Park is home to over 200 lean-tos. A lean-to is a three-sided structure designed to provide shelter to those with enough moxie to spend the night in the wilderness. At many lean-tos, registrars are kept as a running camp journal. Hikers, canoers, hunters, bird watchers, boaters and general outdoor enthusiasts alike record their journies in these mosaic-like journals. Read More |
