Summer 2004 England Comes to Plattsburgh Geoffrey's Pub offers Old World taste and charm. Story and photos by Sarah Lepak
If you’re ever craving
some good ole’ fish and chips, but think you’re out of luck
because you’re in Plattsburgh, you’re day has just been
made. Geoffrey’s Pub, formerly known as the Tijuana Jail, is the
perfect place for those who are looking for light fare with a taste
of England. Geoffrey’s also offers a full bar where people can relax with friends after work or enjoy a drink before dinner. The service is professional, and the staff very courteous. At times, the service can be a little slow, especially around dinnertime. There is plenty of parking and seating room for 100, so there is no need to worry about getting there early. At Geoffrey’s, you won’t have to worry about the prices either. The most expensive item on the menu, Uncle Derek’s Delight, goes for $13.95. For that relatively low price, you get a mouthwatering 12 oz. Strip steak with sautéed mushrooms on top. Along with all that, you getvegetables and your choice of potatoes. With their reasonable prices, Geoffrey’s is a place you can take the whole family without worrying if your wallet can handle it. The restaurant’s dining room has rich mahogany colored wood floors, and corresponding wood paneling along the wall. The dining room's sloping ceilings and English style decoration give the feeling of being in a tavern on the back streets of a small English town. With its large dining room windows affording a lot of light, Geoffrey’s has maintained a modern feel but still manages to pull off the English tavern thing with ease. There is also a cute lounge where you can enjoy a drink with that special someone. With its richly upholstered couches, dark mahogany woodstove, and lanterns on the wall the lounge is the perfect place to warm up on a cold winter night. So, next time you’re
craving some delicious eats with a British flare, try Geoffrey’s
Pub. With its new ownership and new fare, Geoffrey’s will not
disappoint. |
