Letter from the Editor

Dear Readers,

When each issue of All Points North reaches the point of publication I look back at what it took to get it to that point. That point of course is when I am proud to have it read online and now for the first time in print.

There are some contributions that cannot go unnoticed. Among those are the staff writers who show up every week ready to create a magazine that they would be happy to have their name on. Not only have they accepted APN as more than a grade on their transcripts but also as a chance to jump start their careers with published clips. They have taken on extra challenges such has taking their own photos in the absence of a photo editor and learning how to produce multimedia elements for their articles as the demand for technology grows with journalism. Its amazing technology has come and it’s growing role in the four short years I have been a college student. My fellow editors have been another key point in making this issue and those before it possible. They take upon themselves the tasks given to staff writers but they also tackle every other issue along the way. They catch the spelling errors, misplaced modifiers, comma mistakes, find missing photos, layout the pages you are able to read this and the other articles on and take part in every other task — large or small. And of course, it would be foolish to forget our fearless advisor who has somehow remained calm during those times when it seemed like nothing was going right.

Another huge step forward for the magazine has been the establishment of the print version of the publication. The first issue of the print magazine has been a great addition to the online version and takes a huge step to spreading the coverage of APN by putting the material in the hands of those who may not have access to the Internet. Not to mention the writing, editing, layout, and design work put into it is evident on each and every page.

Even with all of this hard work and dedication each week this would not be possible with the most important contribution — the citizens of the North Country who’s lives fill the pages of both APN publications. Without them we would be nothing more than blank pages.

So while I look back at another semester coming to close I acknowledge the work of those who have helped with the reporting, writing, editing, design and so on but I feel a duty to also acknowledge those who sacrifice time and money to help deserted animals find homes, those who have given a portion of their lives to establish ways for personal express through music and every other art form, those who have helped preserve this region’s rich history and every one else who plays a role it making the North Country such a rich and diverse area. Withdrawing just one live would change the whole completely.

Sincerely,
Joshua Cameron
