Love Notes

There is an inevitability about the world that change will happen. People grow older, fads go out of style, opinions change. It is difficult to find someone who has stuck with their original principles, believes in the same core values they did decades ago, and are happier than ever with the classics. Robert Bruce MacDougall, an oboist, conductor, and composer from Plattsburgh, was one such man. Perhaps his downfall was that he only composed classical style music for his 54 years or that he never gave up on the idea of peace. Whatever it was, in 1985, Plattsburgh and the world lost a one-in-a-million man. Read More

A Taste of France Many of us view small towns as having the same old types of diners, fast food joints and local dives. Occasionally there are those cultural restaurants thrown into the mix, but are usually overpriced chains. Recently, a new type of cuisine has introduced itself to the small city of Plattsburgh, NY. Hidden away in a small abandoned plaza lays Quiche et Crepe, a small French bistro run by a local couple.Read More
"Charley" Born in Lockport, NY, in 1914, Charles Reeves Wood showed a drive for success at an early age.  At the age of 13, Wood bought a house for his family, and even restored his own Model T Ford.  Raised during the Great Depression, "Charley"understood the value of the dollar and became a strong investor because of it, ranging from building America's first theme park to philanthropy work with the late Paul Newman.    Read More
Strings Of Success Wooden models hang from the nails on the old white brick wall. Each are about a half an inch thick and cut to produce distinct and individual looks. Although their appearances are different, they all share the same purpose. These models are the frames of the most smooth sounding and uniquely custom built guitars that guitarists from bands such as The Pretenders, Alice Cooper, Ray Lamontagne, and Bob Dylan, bought in the North Country.    Read More
The Greatest Story Don’t call Steven Kellogg an author. That’s far too limiting. Don’t call him an illustrator, either. That’s hardly the designation by which he wants to be known. You can produce all the evidence you want — the 110 books bearing his name, the numerous awards he’s won, the constant demand for his literary presentations — but Kellogg won’t give any ground. The man who has spent his entire adult life as an author/illustrator does not want to be identified by either of these terms. Instead, Kellogg has a far more appropriate name for himself, a title more wide-reaching and long-ranging than any other label. It’s the name of one who shares his gift with others, who knows his craft and knows how to bestow it on the world, who loves his work and loves sharing it with others even more, and those who know Kellogg know this personifies him, right down to his very core. Steven Kellogg is a storyteller.

Photography On The Wild Side

As a wildlife photographer, Gerry Lemmo has traveled across the world to six continents, been featured in national, international and regional publications, and has experienced heart-thumping encounters with dangerously curious polar bears. He has been able to photograph kangaroos in Australia and ring-tailed lemurs in Madagascar, yet he chooses to live with his wife of sixteen years, Lynne, right here in the Adirondack Mountains. Lemmo's lifelong love affair with wildlife makes the Adirondacks, home to a diverse array of species, a great place to live and work. Not only does he get to experience the beauty of the Adirondacks, and many other exotic locales, but he captures it on film and shares it with the world.
