
A city girl at heart, Priscila Ortiz has lived in New York City's Lower East Side for 21 years. She first realized her passion for journalism when, at the age of 16, she attended a press conference in her neighborhood. Clearly the youngest person in the room, she felt comfortable sitting among the journalists shouting their questions at the politicians. At that moment, she made her decision and never turned back. Now in her senior year at SUNY Plattsburgh, she is majoring in magazine journalism with a double minor in cultural anthropology and gender and women studies. This is her fifth semester working with All Points North.
Felicia Bonanno more commonly known as “Flea,” is a sophomore at SUNY Plattsburgh majoring in multimedia journalism with a minor in cultural anthropology. She grew up in and around Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the place that she attributes her love for both city and country life. Journalism combines her two greatest loves of writing and helping people. She hopes to someday travel and use journalism to write about Third World countries, calling attention to struggles in poverty. Some of her other interests include dance, reading, volunteering, alternative healing, and snowboarding.
Currently a junior at SUNY Plattsburgh, Alexandria grew up in Rouses Point, N.Y. She is a magazine journalism major with a nutrition minor. She hopes to one day spread confidence and positive energy by writing or designing for women's interest magazines. Other than writing and grammar, her interests include going to the beach and reading any magazine she can get her hands on.
Davidson-Elizabeth Davidson is a sophomore magazine journalism major. She was born in southern California but has spent the last 12 years living in Westchester, N.Y. Her favorite hobbies include traveling, hiking, reading, writing, antique shopping, visiting museums, and going to concerts. After graduation, she hopes to find work at a lifestyles magazine in order to write about the things she enjoys most: art, cooking, traveling, and design.
Abby is a junior from New York City. She is pursuing dual degrees in biochemistry and multimedia journalism. When she’s not doing school related things, she enjoys reading, writing, drawing and learning about different cultures. Abby is a member of the Korean Association and is also a Student Ambassador for SUNY Plattsburgh. This is Abby’s second semester working for All Points North, and she’s very excited to take on her role as APN’s web administrator.
Alex is a senior in the multimedia journalism program at Plattsburgh State. Originally from Southern California, she has spent the last 13 years in Boonville, N.Y., a town where there are more cows than people. This is her first semester with All Points North, and she is excited to unveil the website’s makeover. Alex is also an associate online editor and contributing writer for the school’s newspaper, Cardinal Points. When she’s not editing content for either publication, Alex can be found cooking and baking. She is currently on the search for the perfect scratch-made brownie recipe.
Adventurist, outdoor enthusiast, and photographer—these are the three best adjectives to describe Ryan’s lifestyle. Raised in Brewster, N.Y., it was a natural fit for him to join the expeditionary studies program. Ryan enjoys seeing new places and meeting new people along his journeys and finds that photography is a great way for him to share that with others. This is his second semester as photo editor, and he looks forward to new challenges and encounters.
Jaime Thomas is working on her second degree in magazine journalism. Her first bachelor's degree is in French with a minor in photography. She grew up in Massachusetts but fell in love with the North Country through much of her childhood spent at a family home there. She loves living in and around the Adirondacks and spends as much time outdoors as possible. Jaime has written and taken photos for All Points North and SUNY Plattsburgh's student newspaper, Cardinal Points. She loves traveling, writing, and taking pictures and hopes to make a career out of the three in the future.
Brooklyn born and Binghamton raised, Joshua is no stranger to the fast pace of city life as well as the lulling appeal of the countryside. As a senior in the mass communication field, Joshua has produced documentaries, a television pilot, two short films, as well as several commercials and public service announcements for radio and television. A new addition to All Points North, Joshua will be the junior multimedia editor providing featurettes never before seen on APN's website. The ideal future for Joshua involves traveling abroad and getting paid to do so.
Raised in Chestertown, N.Y., Arthur Cleveland, a senior, will be graduating in December 2011. A newspaper journalism major, Arthur became interested in the subject after reading “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” in the ninth grade. A deeply “nerdy” individual, his main interests are food, comics, and video games. He hopes to get a job at a local newspaper before becoming a correspondent for magazines like Game Informer or White Dwarf.
Nancy Lee Destiny is a senior at SUNY Plattsburgh majoring in newspaper journalism. She grew up in Baltimore, Md. Nancy moved to the North Country in 2002 from Altoona, Pa. She has lived abroad in St. Hyacinth, Canada and Alexandria, Egypt. Nancy has written for the Clinton Chronicle, Cardinal Points, the Altoona Mirror as a newspaper columnist for five years, The Burgh, and North Countryman newspapers. She is currently doing an internship at the Press Republican in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She enjoys photography, cooking, travel, fishing, learning languages, and people watching. After graduation, she hopes to get a job in a state where it doesn't snow.
Mike Dutre is a senior digital media, public relations, and English major at SUNY Plattsburgh. He was born in northern New Jersey but grew up in Burnt Hills Ballston Lake, N.Y., near Saratoga Springs and Schenectady. His favorite interests include drawing, cooking, writing, heavy metal, comic books, martial arts, reading, and watching television and movies. While in Plattsburgh, he has been both a DJ and music director for The Quake, SUNY Plattsburgh's radio station. Upon graduation, he hopes to move down South or out West to find a job that encompasses his fields of study.
From the small town of Hyde Park, N.Y., located in the northern Hudson
Valley area, Alan Fanitzi currently has a degree in Media Arts &
Communication. Currently a senior at Plattsburgh State University, he has
the goal of earning a degree in magazine journalism. Alan also has
experience working in the field of newspaper journalism. He has completed an
internship at a the Poughkeepsie Journal, a Ganett newspaper as a digital
editor's assistant, and was later hired as a videographer. Since then, he
has published many articles since then. He hopes to one day write for popular
men’s interest magazines such as Men’s Health and Men’s Journal.
After getting his feet wet at two previous schools, Kevin Fellows found
himself at SUNY Plattsburgh. A senior majoring in magazine journalism, he was
raised in the outskirts of Rochster, NY. When not knitting and adding to his
scrapbook collection, he can be found exploring the outdoors, climbing trees
and rooting for the Buffalo Bills. He has written for both Cardinal Points
newspaper and All Points North Magazine. Once he graduates in the spring,
Kevin hopes to travel west and take up yoga.
Amanda Fruehauf transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh last fall from a community college in Medina, N.Y., a small town tucked between Buffalo and Rochester. She is a senior majoring in magazine journalism, and this is her first time writing for APN. This is also her second semester as the art director at Cardinal Points, where she designs graphics for the weekly paper. If Amanda isn’t busy with schoolwork, she is most likely on a random adventure, looking up new music, or daydreaming about San Francisco.
Amanda is a senior at SUNY Plattsburgh majoring in magazine journalism. This is her fourth semester at APN. Growing up on Long Island’s East End, she learned to appreciate the outdoors, and often sought beautiful, yet secret, quiet spaces for thinking. Amanda has experience writing a column for her local newspaper, writing for SUNY Plattsburgh’s award-winning newspaper, and writing for All Points North. She spent her summer in Italy studying international reporting. In addition to writing, Amanda loves to travel, attend rock concerts, eat Mediterranean food, spew inspirational quotes and lyrics, and dance crazily while in the safety of her room.
Raised in a small town in upstate New York, Lindsey Shumway sees writing for All Points North as an opportunity to discover and report the ambitions people dedicate their lives to. In her senior year at SUNY Plattsburgh, majoring in broadcast journalism and TV-video production, Lindsey trusts that she’ll be happy in whatever career she chooses as long as she gets to exercise some form of creativity. In her years at SUNY Plattsburgh, she has been involved in Cardinal Points, PSTV, Point Blank Productions, and WQKE and WARP radio stations. Some of her other interests include painting, thrifting, folk music, Disney movies, and themed adventures with her family.
Chris Taylor was born and raised in Liverpool, England. He moved to New York when he was 18 years old to coach soccer in the Tri-State area. Currently a senior at SUNY Plattsburgh, Chris majors in print journalism and also played for the men’s soccer team. Now an assistant coach with the team, Chris will be entering his first semester with APN and is looking forward to writing for an online magazine. His interests include soccer, music, and cycling. He hopes to spend next summer biking across the United States while writing about the experience.
Matthew Wilson is a double major in both newspaper and multimedia journalism. He is from the beautiful islands of Trinidad and Tobago, a place he adores. He loves soccer, beaches, reggae music, and his family. He hates the cold and snow. This is his first semester writing for All Points North and his last semester at SUNY Plattsburgh. He's excited to be part of the APN team.
