Serendipity Salon and Day Spa

Treat yourself to a day of pampering.

by Angela Keddy

When most people have a favorite restaurant or store, they don’t really like to try any place different. I’m one of those people. Once Serendipity Salon opened in May 2003, I haven’t visited any other.

Located on Main Street in Malone, Serendipity offers a serene atmosphere with a friendly, professional staff, much like Euro-Spa in St. Ignace de Stanbridge, Quebec. Serendipity is dedicated to their client’s well being. Green plants, mirrors, and the local radio station, 94.7 Hits FM makes my experience enjoyable every time I go. My hairdresser Tiffany Collins, along with the rest of staff, is dedicated to her client's well being. And for those who have never been to the salon and aren't sure what they want done, there are many photo albums and books with pictures of updo’s and different hairstyles.

To get your hair shampooed and styled, you’ll pay from $9 to $12, while regular hair cuts range from $10 to $13, and also include a shampoo and style. Perms and color start at $37 and go up from there, depending on the length of your hair, and what you want done. Maybe you just want a scalp massage and deep conditioning. This can happen for $20. Want a glass of wine or a cold glass of water while you are getting your hair done? Just ask.

“We have a fair amount of men who come in and get colors, manicures, pedicures, and massages,” says Jocelyn, an employee at Serendipity. They offer beard and mustache trims for $4, and hair removal services for those unwanted hair growth regions, such as your chest or back.

Serendipity offers massages that create soothing strokes to relax overworked muscles for that stressful day that you may need some refreshing. To be stress free for half an hour it’s $30; $50 for an hour, and $75 for an hour and a half.

Reflexology- this massage starts at the feet and works its way up. Reflexes in the feet affect every part of the human body.

Stone Therapy- the most popular massage that incorporates heated stones to reach deep inside the tissues.

Neuro-Muscular- deep tissue massage that releases physical and emotional stress and relieves postural distortions.

Serendipity offers perms, color, and relaxing scalp massages with deep conditioning for those stressful days.

Massages aren’t the only thing that can make your body feel refreshed. To make your skin look and feel its best, treat yourself to a facial or a back treatment, which are perfect for neglected, sun drenched, or dehydrated skin. These treatments range from $40 to $60 in price.

To make your visit truly unforgettable, take a day for yourself. Serendipity can make you Queen for a Day for $175. Spend the whole day at the spa and indulge in the feeling of royalty. The full day of relaxation begins with a fresh fruit plate and a cup of tea. The service includes a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure, shampoo and style, scalp massage, makeup application, and much more. To top the whole day off, you get a delicious catered lunch, which consists of a hearty salad of your choice from Villa Fiore across the street.
