It Don't Mean a Thing

There is a saying in the Jazz world that goes, “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.”  Ellen Powell, bass player and adjunct lecturer of Plattsburgh State University has long applied this rule to her life, keeping it soulfully jazzy to this day. “Jazz has always been a comfortable place for me,” Powell says happily. Powell started piano in the six grade and studied it for the next fifteen years. Her major musical influence was her older brother who played standard jazz tunes such as Cole Porter and Gershwin. The Burgh's Bravest Almost every day, people in Plattsburgh hear the faint, and hopefully not too close, sound of a fire truck whizzing through a local neighboorhood. The Plattsburgh Fire Department, which is full-time, serves this city in an absolutely necessary way.  Many of the times that they are called on by the citizens of the city, there are false alarms and routine drills taking place.   However, it the other half of the calls which we depend on firefighters for every day, even if we do not fully realize it.

Watching people lose isn’t easy. Watching Americans lose in bobsleds that weren’t made in America is even harder for NASCAR legend Geoff Bodine. That is why he set out to manufacture sleds that could be stamped with a "Made In America" seal.
